danah boyd on e-mail sabbaticals

As I write this I’m listening to an interview with danah boyd about the concept of e-mail sabbaticals. What she does is take vacations and automatically trashes any incoming e-mail while she’s gone. If it’s important enough, people can always e-mail her again when she’s back. The benefit is that when she comes back online, she’s got an empty inbox and nothing to get caught up on. I’m seriously considering doing this while on my honeymoon.

Another Hall of Shame entry

Yep, another Web site that won't accept my .info e-mail address. Disaapointingly, it's Lessig08.org (mentioned in my previous post). I'm still supporting him but he needs a better e-mail validation script.

Outlook Web Access

I've recently gained access to an Exchange Server-based e-mail system and was told that the Web access worked through both Firefox and IE. Well, take a look at these screenshots:

IE7
Outlook Web Access (IE 7)

Firefox 2
Outlook Web Access (Firefox 2.0)

As you can see, Firefox "works" but there's more options and a smoother interface in IE. Go figure.

(I wasn't going to blog this but someone saw the screenshots in my flickr account and sent me an e-mail regarding how they'd been using Friefox for this and never thought to consider that it might work better in IE. I figured that with one person there might be others so I've shared it with you here.)
