Help me solve a networking problem

The CAT-6 wiring has been installed and streaming HDTV from the office computer to the HDTV & stereo is pretty much complete. But there’s a problem. Before I explain it, here’s a diagram of the setup. (via gliffy)

Now for the problem: The switch in the living room. The switch is there to connect the TV computer and the game consoles. If the Switch is connected the DSL modem constantly connects to the Net, works for a minute or two, then resets, killing the Net connection for the house. When I remove the switch and connect the TV computer directly, everything works fine and the DSL modem stops resetting itself.

The switch is a DLink DGS-2205 which has a “feature” which turns off the ports when they’re not being used but that should effect the DSL modem shouldn’t it? I’ve ordered a new Netgear switch without the green feature. just in case that’s the problem.

So any ideas? Need any further details? Just post a comment.

Ridiculous

Dear MoveOn member,

This is ridiculous. The media has been obsessing about President Obama's plan to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans—from 35% to 39.6%—even asking if that makes him a socialist.1

But do you know what tax rate the wealthiest Americans paid on the top portion of their earnings at the end of Ronald Reagan's first term? 50%.

Under Richard Nixon? 70%. Under Dwight Eisenhower? 91%!

Shocking, right?

And for all the whining about rolling back Bush's irresponsible tax cuts, the truth is that Obama's plan cuts taxes for 95% of working Americans. Further, it closes huge tax loopholes for oil companies, hedge funds and corporations that ship jobs overseas so that we can invest in the priorities that will get our economy back on track.2

We saw a great chart in The Washington Monthly3 that shows just how absurd Republican complaints about Obama's budget are. Check it out and pass it on:

Thanks for all you do.

Final Edition

I don’t subscribe to a newspaper any more but the last one I did, and actually enjoyed was the Rocky Mountain News. This past Friday, after 149 years and 311 days, the Rocky published it’s final edition.
